Redwood Coast Dachshunds

Humboldt County, CA

ALL ABOUT US

Nestled in the majestic Redwoods in the heart of the California North Coast, we are a small, home-based Miniature Longhaired Dachshund Breeder. We are committed to producing puppies of excellent quality, as well as upholding the highest standards of traditional miniature dachshund lineage, and meeting all standards set forth by the AKC. Our goal is to maintain a breeding program that focuses on healthy, ethical breeding.
We are passionate about dachshunds; from their short legs to their long snouts, we adore everything there is about them. We have spent countless hours educating ourselves on this breed; we have taken many courses, gone to educational events, and have a group of fellow breeders with many, many years of experience that we frequently consult. Being educated on safe, healthy, ethical breeding is a lifelong process; we are always learning and researching.
Our dogs live with us, in our home, in Humboldt County, CA. While we are committed to producing puppies that are of the highest quality, our priorities remain the same - keeping our dachshunds healthy and happy. From beginning stages of life to their journey across the rainbow bridge, our dogs are followed closely by our veterinarian, especially during pregnancy. The health of our dachshunds is our ultimate priority; if at any time we feel breeding is not in one of our dogs best interest or health, or our veterinarian does not recommend it, the dog in question will be spayed/neutered, and will live the rest of it's life in retirement in our home. While many breeders adopt out adults who are no longer part of their breeding program, we do not agree with this process. For us, ethical breeding includes our adults remaining with our family after retirement. Our dogs are not walking uteruses/testes; our sausage dogs are tremendously loved family members that are not tools at our disposal.
Our adult furry children are all crate trained, as we feel crate training is a vital and necessary life skill; however, our dogs are not kept in crates or kennels. Being part of our family means that our home is also our dogs' home; they are often found sunbathing on the floor or burrowed under the blankets in our beds at night. They love snuggling up with us on the couch for movie night, and are always ready to jump in the truck for camping trips, or quick runs to the grocery store.
We are not a puppy mill. We do not breed our girls every time they go into heat, and there is a tremendous amount of planning and health screenings that goes into every one of our planned litters.
The adoption process for our puppies may be different than other breeders you may have previously worked with, or explored. Our puppies are not adopted on a first come, first serve basis. Potential families are interviewed, and thoroughly vetted before a decision is made. We only place puppies with homes we feel are able to provide all necessary and appropriate care, while also giving them the best possible lives. At this time, our puppies are registered as pet only. This means they do not come with breeding rights. This is not something we are willing to negotiate.
Contact us today to start the process of welcoming one (or two! or three!) of these precious little weenies into your family. Once you enter the dachshund family, you will be hooked for life!
